By 1900, the whole of Africa, except for Ethiopia, was under colonialism. India, Indonesia, Indo-China, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, the Middle East and the Caribbean were also under colonialism. China was a semi-colony being predated on by European imperialism.
The colonization of Africa was because of our internal weaknesses – small chiefdoms and kingdoms or segmentary societies. This was in spite of the fact that the entire continent of Africa, eleven million square miles of land area, is occupied by only four language groups:
• the Niger-Congo group of languages (including the Bantu dialects);
• the Nilo-Saharan (including the Cushitic languages like the Nubian and the Somali);
• the Afro-Asiatic languages (Arabic, Tigrinya and Amharic); and
• the small Khoisan languages of Southern Africa (the so-called bushmen).
Therefore, Africa is not as disparate as it is made out to be by the foreigners and the local traitors as well as reactionaries. Moreover, the four language groups have linkages among themselves. Nevertheless, political integration was limited and this is where the problem was. Africans are similar or linked but they were not governed together for much of the time. Trade, however, took place from the coast to the interior. It is this low level of political integration that enabled the colonialists to conquer Africa. This is why we, the pan-Africanists, work for African political and economic integration.
Read on, friends!!
What an article. indeed M7 has hit it right 'on top of the head". He top-on and clearly understands where he is coming from and where he is headed. We hope that such theories will be used for the betterment of our Kenyana people and Africa as a whole.

Another time would have been better in my opinion - not now when Ugandan importers have just been watching the Aboud rogo riots, the Tana ethnic violence and the impending elections. If the profile of Dar es Salam as a port in East Africa is to rise, the intransigence and complacence of KPA shall have played no small part.
The choice, if I were the KPA, would be clear. The revenue lost to 'short landings' by unscrupulous Kenyan traders vs the revenue got from Ugandan traders, which is greater? Or do they think Ugandan importers have no option than to put up with whatever bureacratic huddles KPA thinks of?
These threats, when they came from government, I was inclined to take them cum grano salis. This time they are coming from the importers themselves. Let's see who blinks first.
Absolutely not in order. poor and sketchily thought policies, typical of the incompetent KPA management. We as a people of the Kenyana we are tired of people who dont think of a unified EAC. Instead of introducing such measures, why dont we think of rempveing the trade barriers that are inhibiting our trade. Uganda is our largest trade partners and we should be working closely as opposed to dirty tricks. am sure the Kenyan govt wont allow this.

Re: REGIONAL DISCUSSIONS:
funny article albeit with a stinging shot of reality
Libya’s Prime Minister Abdurrahim El-Keib also admitted it, as did Libya’s President Mohammed El-Megarif, as well as Ali Aujali, Libya’s Ambassador to Washington, plus Ibrahim Dabbashi, Libya’s ambassador to the UN. All of them said that Gaddafi loyalists had attacked the US site in Benghazi. They would quickly change their change tune under pressure from their NATO masters.
Back on 24 August 2012, Time magazine had noted that Gaddafi “still commands silent admiration in many parts of Libya”. The article quoted President El-Magariaf as saying: “We know that Gaddafi loyalists are behind these bombings [since the overthrow of Gaddafi]. In the last few months, the security services have intensified their campaign against Bani Walid and Tarhuna.” (9

Somalia post al-Shabaab
What is the future of al shabaab after the fall of Kismayu?
The new Somalia president has asked foreign al shabaab fighters to leave Somalia. Aparently, he is interested in taking to Somalia al shabaabs. He has training and experience in conflict resolution. Besides he has previously negotiated an agreement with al shabaab which allowed him to continue running SIMAD [the university he headed in Mogadishu] while al shabaab chased everyone else from their areas of control. A clear split of the al shabaabs - foreign vs Somali may determine which way they go.
Will the new Somali leader succeed in his dealings with the al-Shabab?
Interesting discussion on a video clip here: http://aje.me/OapBUo

If I read correctly, KCTA are trying to infuriate with their move by terming a resurgence of the kenyan PEV and other complicated facts not knowing this period is seasonal. This has been something cooking for a while. It is not unusual based on the hidden fact M7 had opted for Dar longtime. LAPSSET is on course which just needs four years to conclude. If then that election period manages to pass without hitches then that move by KCTA will be suicide.

I don't think we've seen the last of the Mombasa port en-passe. Ugandan traders are seriously contemplating Dar.

Actually, I don't think so, Spartan. Importing through Dar is a total nightmare (ask any importer or logistician). From weeks of offshore waiting to exorbitant fees to red tape for the smallest item to onshore infrastructure and logistics. And they are just as corrupt as in Mombasa. That is why Mombasa is the port of choice (in addition to capacity and facilities), despite all its misgivings. I would be very surprised to learn that Ugandan traders are not aware of this. GoK knows this and I'm certain GoU does as well. The first challenge traders will face is finding someone willing to dock at Dar, unless the entire cargo is to be offloaded there. Waiting offshore Dar for weeks with cargo onboard for Maputo or Durban or wherever is extremely costly, and this will be passed on to the traders and, ultimately, the consumers. Dar is a small, local (and I hate to say "backwater) port, decades behind Mombasa and a century behind Lamu (this is not nationalist chest-thumping).
Importing through Dar will be nothing more than a protest, or a negotiating position, or a political gimmick. A sh*t-load of money will be required to sustain it. The best thing for both sides is for folks to engage on a serious note and with serious intentions, and attempt to thrash this out. Gov't-to-Gov't. Otherwise folks will just sit back and wait and see who will outlast whom. In the long run, this would not forebode well for traders and consumers in Uganda.

I hear the KDF/AMISOM has issued orders to all Chismayo clan militia to surrender their tools of trade. This begs the question, What about the RKM? and speaking of RKM, seeing as they were moving into Chai town with units officially integrated with AMISOM, what statement does this give? Is it a subtle approval and recognition of the RKM? @Jas
Kismayu clan militias that have sprung up now are a front for something. As I said earlier, anyone armed in Kismayu is either al shabaab or KDF & allies. RKM has been fighting alongside the KDF/SNA while those others were cavorting with the alkebabs. That is why if you are in Kismayu and armed better be part of the allies or alkebabs.

True. Obama lost. He squandered great opportunities. Zingers eluded him as his opponent threw his hitting target accurately. He should have used the 47% Romney gaffee to the full. He forgot about it. Romney cleverly utilized Biden's gaffe with excellent effect - the middle class has been buried for the last 4 yrs!
Also, these debates have increasingly become like showbiz. To win you must project the image of the winner. Obama did not.
If performance in debates won some elections Romney could win but unfortunately, many other things determine electoral success. Florida and Ohio tending Obama way he will win if those states stay that way all through.

Saudi Arabia intercepts Eritrean jet
On Tuesday, two Saudi F-15 fighter planes intercepted “an unidentified aircraft coming from the Horn of Africa [and] flying at a low level,” according to Saudi Arabian Arabic website, Jazan News.
On Tuesday, two Saudi F-15 fighter planes intercepted “an unidentified aircraft coming from the Horn of Africa [and] flying at a low level,” according to Saudi Arabian Arabic website, Jazan News. The Saudi website didn’t mention its sources and did not provide additional details but said the authorities will treat the matter as “the situation requires.”
The incident caused the delay of a passenger plane that was ready to take-off. A passenger on the plane indicated that he saw two officers get off the fighter plane and were taken away by security personnel.
Meanwhile, citing its own sources, Eritrean website assenna.com has identified the plane and the pilots as Eritrean: Yonas Woldeab and Mekonnen Debesai. The Saudi interceptors had flown from the Saudi Air Force base in Khamis Mushet. Jazan is a port city in southwest Saudi Arabia close to the Yemeni border. In 2006, a military helicopter piloted by an Eritrean also landed in Jazan: the Eritreans asked political asylum.
According to the UN’s Monitoring Group on Somalia and Eritrea first reported by Gedab News, the Eritrean Air Force, which is made up of 22 fixed-wing and 7 rotary-wing aircraft is operating at 30% capacity due to the total embargo that the UN imposed on Eritrea (UN Resolution 1907) which has made it nearly impossible for the Eritrean regime to import spare parts and conduct routine maintenance.
The Monitoring Group, which based its information on Eritrean defectors and Western diplomats in Eritrea estimates that, as of the date of its report in the summer of 2012, only 7 Eritrean military aircraft are operational. They are:
2 MiG-29 Fulcrum
1 Sukhoi Su-27 Flanker
2 Harbin Y-12
2 Mil Mi-17 Hip

@Uzi
The approach taken by Ethiopians is self-defeating. They rely on muscle too much. You see that wherever they go.
Mara they disagree and get upset with their AWSJ allies then just march off leaving allies being hammered by alkebas.
The britz thro' towns sending terrified kebabs helter skelter then move on and the kebabs return. Strategy is puzzling.

More info emerges:
1. The two pilots are Airforce Captains
2. The plane is the presidential jet
3. The two men have sought assylum but they are not just any “ordinary” military officers:
*they worked directly for President Afeworki and
*were reportedly involved in secret missions to Somalia, eg ferrying equipment for the al Shabaab.
4. The president has dispatched General Tekle Habteselassié to Riyadh over the matter

Joint Uganda-Kenya Oil Projects
Apparently, our Prime Minister wants joint oil projects with Kenya and South Sudan, as does the Kenyan PM. So what's stopping us? This region is too poor to throw away billions of dollars by each country insisting on its own oil infrastructure projects

The F-5 as a fighter is just as good or even better than the L-39, in my view. I meant that Kenya should go for something much better than what it already has. Hope I've cleared the air.
