On a seperate note the journalist is sweating the "thin sweat" and look scared in this footage while k.d.f guy is so calm even smiling at the sound of al shabab gunfire.incredible.

Hey Jasiri weapons are not procured that way. If that’s the case where would you put items like the Abrams or all tanks should be wheeled based? The Abrams too can’t take a mine on its foot and isn’t air transportable. I was just posting for info. Seek those who didn,t know should know.
. The 2S3 SPH is artillery for KDF tanks and motorized battalions. Unless see the big picture and know how they fit in it wouldn’t make sense. people said a lot when the Tata MRAV we bought but now you see them doing their function as they are suppose to. easy to run and lots of spares. we want an army that can run comfortable in our economy.

ziko na kazi yake in our battle plans. To keep up with our tanks/APC as they soar forward rather than have the L115 gun. The SPH has its award in combat http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2S3_Akatsiya#Combat_history

What is now in Somalia blongs in the Sixties what many had relegated but is being use effectively under well trained Men. http://www.military-vehicle-photos.com/picture/number6217.asp

in the above clip a F-14 Tomcat does a training chase with an F-5. The skilled F-5 pilot uses the power engines the advantage of the F-14 (an aircraft a notch below the F-15), to his own advantage by making the F-14 pilot accelerate and climb 2:08sec in a chase then sends him in a dive 2:08sec By this time the F-14 had gained a high kinetic energy( i.e from the rapid climb followed by an instant dive) finally making him hit the ground 2:30sec.

Clarification on the clip “imaginary earth/floor/deck”….the instructor ,F-5 is allowed to go below the deck while the student, F-14 chaser isn,t allowed?? Ehh ama?Question

@Balozi All engagements ,the student and pilots are done above the imaginary floor 5,000feet. the experienced f-5 pilot knew at what attitude he should start pulling up for his climb which took him a few feet above the imaginary floor. While the exited F-14 pilot over looked that.

@ Crane the student was getting instruction from her trainer "Meg Rio". Rio is a call sign for the trainer. In the USAF both male and female aviator graduate with similar grades and are equal in combat.

Hydrocarbons aren’t the requirements to run the F-15,s. The F-15’s will be a striped down version of the original/American F-15. The lesser the sophistications the cheaper/easier it is to maintain and run it.

Ufortunate as it might be, these episodes are not altogether unexpected. We have seen the same even in UN missions and they are not confined to any particular national force. What is more, the accusations are from NGOs and not yet independently proven/verified hence we need to take them with a pinch of salt. Yesterday we saw video clips of American marines urinating on a dead body. What are we to make of these then? Is it only a human right violation when Africans are involved? These Wazungus are upto no good.

So the As took hostage in Wajir, put them on display in Bardhere a few hours ago, announced their impeding public trial and probable execution in punishment. They brag of continued future kidnappings as a War strategy! IF they execute them...? All GSM comms in Bardhere District and some of North Gedo down, the AS fearing KAFand Air-Cavalry prowlers coming to visit, but the Deltas in close vicinity. Working feverishly on a smash-and-grab if at all possible.

If they kill those civilians, War as Kenyans have known it is about to change.

Seriously someone need to tell us whats going on with this aggressive military build up by k.d.f.For sure it cant be al shabab since they have no high performance jet fighters and the recent acquisation of SAM 11 missiles that can be even used against cruise missiles is baffling.Am being told that even as we speak "new" jets of unknown kind are in Laikipia airbase. But jets aside coz we dont know for sure, the issue of surface to air missiles is not in doubt as this was handled openly and is in public domain. What just changed from 2009 given that from that period K.d.f has added to its inventory over 250 armored personal carriers,100+ T 72 tanks,40 + artillery pieces including Nora B-52s,new assault riffles M4 seem to be the standard rifle now, rocket launchers, missiles, Z9 attack helicopters (thought the already lethal md 500 35 of them was sufficient),and now the shopping of modern jets. While we can disagree about the jets and their time of arrival,we certainly can agree that the above mentioned weapons are in use with k.d.f and the knowledge of them being here is not classified.
WHILE WE MAY NOT AGREE ON THE ACCURACY OF THE "MOST CREDIBLE" SITES SAY LIKE C.I.A WORLD FACT BOOK,JANES DEFENSE,WE CAN CERTAINLY AGREE THAT EVEN THEM HAVE CHANGED THE RANKING OF KENYA MILITARY SPENDING TO NU 49 AND NU 40 RESPECTIVELY AS PER 2010.(consensus here). A FEW YEARS AGO THEY RANKED KENYA AT NU 70.
WHAT HAS CHANGED SO DRASTICALLY TO WARRANT THIS KIND OF ARMAMENT GIVEN THAT THIS SORT OF WEAPONRY IS SURE NOT MEANT FOR RAG TAG MILITIA LIKE AL SHABAB.

C'mon guys! What more can I add to whatever else I have been saying here? Dammit, I feel like a lone voice in a desert! But in brief recap, Vision 2030 is impossible without a virtual expansion of our boundaries. Kenyana assures Markets, Material, social-political solidity and most important of all is a mutual security guarantee within a large umbrella called Kenyana. If IGAD as loose as it is is able to rein in Sudan against GoSS, imagine what a strongly integrated DRC-Malawi-Somalia-Eritrea-GoSS-wide block can do? Tutsi and Hutus simply vanish in this sort of demography and their petty internecine bloody sibling conflict loses meaning and importance- for example. The somali-in-kenya question gets sorted with finality within kenyana, since the boundary between kenya and Somalia becomes 'virtual'. You can go on and on.

So, justifications for this greedy good idea?
1. because we have created a virtual reality country called Kenyana in which our future is entrenched and dependent,
2. because if we don't do it someone else from outside Kenyana will, and we will simply get swamped into irrelevancy. Even the Arabs are ogling and salivating.
3. Within this Kenyana, we (Kenyans)have the greatest human Asset Base, incomparable with all else in Kenyana using all socio-econo-political indices,
4. in real terms we are practically at take-off stage but cannot jump off without Kenyana. We must expand aggressively or simply just hold position as we are. I will be damned if I will just seat and die!!
5. Sammy intends to regroup hiself around stable dependable regional blocks, and is making a tactical withdrawal from his pre-coldwar strategic international deployment. Security in numbers will drive these regional blocks, and in Kenyana, we (kenyans) will drive this rapproachment in Kenyana.
6. And that we are a bit greedy and it does feel damn good to expand ourself into new horizons - truth be told.

In the next twenty years, Africa will break up into four main Blocks. The Arab North with Egypt as the fulcrum, Ecowas West Africa with Nigeria at the centre, Southern Africa with its vestige of White Culture encompasing Namiba, Angola, South Africa, Rhodesia and Mozambique, probably Malawi, and Kenyana rotating around Kenya with All of EAC/ IGAD, CAR and DRC, Somalia and including possibly Malawi and Zambia. These are the geopolitical realities that we must project our military strategic planning within, and I suggest the civilians also get into gear as well, by gawd!! Very Happy

Kenya Defence Force - Page 17 Empty On the raid

Post  vince Sat Jan 14 2012, 11:33

I might not accurately be able to understand the atmosphere at NFD on the raid, but i would like to pose a few questions and probably expose a little ignorance in details.
The raid happens between 6-7pm, the incident is picked up about 5hrs later into the night, the manhunt conducted perhaps the following day. Later on the AS showcase the prisoners way past the pacified area.
Q1. Were APs on a camping holiday? Was there no 24hrs surveillance of some sort or someone manning the area?
Q2. Is there not a routine check via any communication of various posts especially in volatile areas by other security units?

Finally, how hard can KDF go on Somalis (AS sympathizers) in bid to rescue the captured Kenyans as ON puts it -If they kill those civilians, War as Kenyans have known it is about to change- while cautiously considering that UN has approved re-hatting with some caution and still maintain the win of hearts and minds of Somalis?

Cool down brother, cool down. I trust decisive response to this new as strategy is on the deck. You wonder why cruising to Kismayu is taking longer than anticipated despite kdf steel and personell/tactical capabilities? Flanks and rearguard becomes vulnerable to such desperate enemy actions. Remember how fluid and melty this enemy can be! Most important is for all security agents and civilians along the border to be vigilant and spot/report indicators(pre-emptive actions). They must reinforce and be on guard against future such desperate attacks.

This horrible attack clearly demonstrates how ruthless AS is. It is clear justification to why GOK took this painful but decisive deployment to eliminate hostilty and help create civil administration whose bilateral coperation is possible. People have short memory. I would like all to remember countress attacks along the same border since the fall of Siad Barre. People forget Amuma raids(5 times), Hega Dam attacks,Wajir raids,Mandera raids.......all both administration and civilian killings. We have all been quiet and diplomatic until last year intensity! We have to live free or die!

The Kenya we were before AS attacks is NO MORE! I urge all peace loving Kenyans regardless of ethnicity and indeed entire East and Central Africa to realize the cancerous danger of AS and thus embrace common agenda/purpose to stop them before the whole region is Taribanised.

I would like the wazungus slamming kdf with allegations of human rights abuse to ensure that there is NO abuse by AS to these humble Kenyans captured while serving their country. Where is CBS,BBC,CNN,ABC and the rest of human rights watchers?

@Risasi - when is your conversion to your new ride, buddy?

AS trains like we do in Spec0ps –small highly mobile integrated tactical units, with members multi-tasked with fluidity in a variety of specialist roles. Remember that a good number of her foreign fighters have served in Sammy’s or the Brits Army elements. So, they employ near-similar tactical philosophy, modus operadus, equipment, etc. We part ways because their underlying motivation is corrupted by negative ideology. They kill anything - with fervor; we do our wet-work with dispassionate detachment.

If this Gerille Ops were by our Deltas, the primary recce was complete the day before, primary infiltration and positioning before sun-down; both sentries (I think the two KIA /APs were on sentry duty) taken out by synchronized sniper-shots, coordinated and timed action simultaneously takes out the Comms Mast and Comms Centre, knocks out the Independent Power Supply, a couple of magnesium grenades into the Armoury and several flash-bangers and magnesium grenades into the Mess and sleeping quarters, all possible exits covered with auto-rifle and grenade launchers and kill whatever comes through. It is a wonder some APs actually got out alive of this hell-fire – some stumbling around the vast wasteland for hours before being found.

Distress call never went out. Earliest anyone know something was amiss is during the 04H00 call-ups, and even so it takes several timed call-ups without response from this station before anyone can start shouting. Brothers, I suggest it is offensive for anyone to imply laxity and negligence on the part of these brave APs – we have not even buried those we lost. Have you seen those RDU chaps in full battle-rage?

I think we should re-vist an earlier posting that clarified the different constitution-of-Kenya Mandates of the Kenya Police and KDF, in the face of this recurrent accusation about the ‘’KDF deploying into Somalia and leaving the door open’’ – that point of view is seriously f-cked up, in my view!! Granted, it is difficult for a civilian who has never tabbed along this border to contextually visualise the immensity and hostile complexity of this Border Region. Vince, livefire, not even Sammy’s border with Mexico is shut tight, no matter that it is the most militarized, fortified and surveillance-saturated border anywhere on this earth.

ole Nkarei, is it true that KDF wont attack Kismayu afterall? If true, I am disappointed. According to comments attributed to Kenya's Defence Minister, Kenya can't sustain the attack on Kismayu for 'financial' reasons.

There's something I am not getting here.

The one thing I've learnt about the flow of KDF information, Spartan, is that it's based on the principle of wait-and-see. For example:
- We're getting F-15s.
- Hm, I'm a bit skeptical about that.
- OK, wait and see.
Despite much initial doubt, my gut feeling tells me that I am likely to see those F-15s in KAF colours, eventually. I just have to wait to see them.
I would be hard pressed to see the point of Operation Linda Nchi if Kismayo - Al Shabaab's lifeline and, to all intents and purposes, its sole remaining raison d'être - were to be let off the hook. But I suggest we wait and see.
In the mean time, speculation is good.

@ Vitruvian, it is ok to adopt a wait and see attitude but Mr. Haji was unequivocal. On the birds Ke policy can change anytime and you get them, if you already don't have them. It was his statements on the war effort that alarmed me.

Some questions that came to mind;So KDF was not intending to go in all the time? If so what would then be the measure/yardstick for the success of OLN? Let's say the UN approves the funds for the rehatting of KDF to AMISOM, how long would it take for another force to join the Kismayo theater? Is there any leader in the region with the balls to commit troops to street by street battles?

Let me make a bold prediction here. It is the UPDF that will have to share part of the responsibility for taking Kismayo if Kenya is unwilling to go solo. I know ole Nkarei won't like the look of it, but we are in too deep.

Kenyan politicians are renowned for their ability to recant, reaffirm, renounce, reiterate or repudiate anything (sometimes everything) they say at the bat of an eyelid, without consequence. It might be the absolute truth or utter rubbish. Here, for example, Yusuf Haji is unequivocal that there are no F-15s or, indeed, any new jets at all in our shopping basket. Yet this forum has been given the utmost assurance that the Eagle has Landed. Tom, Risasi?
I don't have to file any reports so I reckon I'll just wait and see.

It sure takes a kurutu to put you ole timers to pasture! Spartan – Minister Haji is justifiably and understandably playing real-politiks with this new muscled KDF profile and the serious opportunity now presented to the world to close this Somali question with finality. Israel has done this for decades, and Pakistan been at it for a decade of so. Make no mistake about it - we can do Kismayo with or without Sammy’s direct help. But it will be so much easier if Sammy dropped the Gear and picked up the tab too – tis his fight more than ours in Kenyana, after all. And we get to buttress our rearmament profile to suit the direction of Kenyana almost for free!! Congress has to be fed some ‘’clear-and-present-danger’’ BS to fast-track dropping the Gear and circumvent normal procedure – just watch them all line up to respond to Minister Haji in coming days.

No slight intended on UPDF-UGABA, but they need to break out of Crazy town ( which ought not be too ambitious at present with Ethiopia up north-west and KDF all over Juba and lower Gedo) before they can bite anymore of this cake, my brother Spartan.

@ Areba - with KDF assets in place, air and sea, we can shut down Kismayo tighter than a gitwamba twilight lady's wares!! But without international convergence, acceptability would be transient at best. Sammy and his cousins are trying to define this theater as a Kenyana problem with only some nuisance value to them - we must keep telling them it is more their problem than ours. So, we get them to buy into ALL OF this operation so that we can share ALL the operational costs and risks of failure. Simply that!

there are reports that alshabab has killed seven kenyan kdf and destroyed two APCS.
WHATs happening to the air cover?

How more coordinated can we get bloggers. That’s the sound of AK-47 on the background
All this weaponry/fuel comes from Kenya Tax payers no UN or AMISIM funded.

@risasi mbaya hiyo bro. mwaga mtama kwenye kuku bwana tujuwe….

I spoke to someone in the know today ..about this incident who is a captain the KDF logistics ..the guy tells me that the convoy that we see here being ambushed consisted of just a few kenya army cooks and soldiers just delivering food and other supplies to the soldiers on the frontline when they got into trouble.
they managed to hold off the alshabab gunmen killing four until they got help from the famous YY chopper(nickname for the MD 500) which took out the gunmens 2men maning machine gun position.
APPARENTLY the main goal of the alshabab was to capture one of these south african made troop carriers which has made life hell for them because it is so well built that they have been unable to destroy one since the KDF went into somalia
