Re: Kenya Defence Forces (KDF)
this a recent raid on a naija military barrack in Gwazo which show boko haram displaying caches of weapons capture while they load them in trucks .the video the attack starts at around 24:28 if nigeria doesnt get its act together ,their future look more doomedMWAURA wrote:Flyguys, please drop some hints about your Russia trip! I know you weren't going for the tank biathlon and neither were you going for prayers! Broad hints will do-spare me the details.
It seems the Naij army is in shit! I don't normally trust Euromedia but when you hear local media talking of mutiny and soldiers shooting at officers,Goodluck pleading for a 1 bn$ to buy weapons while BH seemingly grows form strength to strength you must wonder.http://www.punchng.com/news/jonathan-seeks-1bn-loan-to-fight-boko-haram/ wrote:President Goodluck Jonathan has asked the House of Representatives to grant approval to his government to borrow an external loan of $1bn(about N165bn).http://www.punchng.com/news/boko-haram-overruns-police-academy-in-borno/ wrote:A riot police training academy near Gwoza, Borno State has been overrun by Boko Haram militants.
IIRC,Nkash said they requested KDF help for the Mali operation. They then sent KDF specops on the ground in N Mali who accordingly advised no. The state of the N army has much to do with that decision it seems.
Does anyone have anything concrete on BH and Naijj?

Arab Nations carry out AirStrikes in Libya, Surprising U.S.
CAIRO — Twice in the last seven days, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates have secretly launched airstrikes against Islamist-allied militias battling for control of Tripoli, Libya, four senior American officials said, in a major escalation of a regional power struggle set off by Arab Spring revolts.
The United States, the officials said, was caught by surprise: Egypt and the Emirates, both close allies and military partners, acted without informing Washington, leaving the Obama administration on the sidelines. Egyptian officials explicitly denied to American diplomats that their military played any role in the operation, the officials said, in what appeared a new blow to already strained relations between Washington and Cairo. The strikes in Tripoli are another salvo in a power struggle defined by Arab autocrats battling Islamist movements seeking to overturn the old order. Since the military ouster of the Islamist president in Egypt last year, the new government and its backers in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have launched a campaign across the region — in the news media, in politics and diplomacy, and by arming local proxies — to roll back what they see as an existential threat to their authority posed by Islamist groups like the Muslim Brotherhood. read more http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/26/world/africa/egypt-and-united-arab-emirates-said-to-have-secretly-carried-out-libya-airstrikes.html?_r=1

KNS Jasiri operates on the concept of mission modules. Just like Lego blocks, u can fit in the mission packages as neccesity demands. If you check out her fore deck, you'll notice a platform for a main gun but no main gun. Also, if you check out Nyayo and her sister you will notice all the anti-ship missile launchers have been removed. The idea behind Jasiri is a 'one-shi-fits-all' arangement where you can have it doing surveying, EEZ Patrols (its usual cup of tea), anti-piracy patrols, detterence missions, support of amphib marine units etc. It can be aptly called a Multi Role Corvette. The Blue wrote:I digress, I beg.jasiri wrote:Can you spot Col Njiru in the background? This is the most sensible move by Rwanda. With her modest defence budget, Rwanda can ill afford an arms race with her neighbors yet she needs to protect her territory. Rwanda may not afford to buy and maintain Sukhois like the more wealthy Uganda or Tanzania.Risasi wrote:@Crane ,Spartan and fellow Air men a confident of mine tells me Rwanda has brought/will bring in some stick to throw at any bird that strays in its air space.

Kenya's next OPV?
Some months ago the President mentioned another OPV. Construction has commenced in Bangladesh, owner listed as Kenyan Ministry of Fisheries, Livestock & Agriculture.
This OPV has a helipad
• Contract date: 23 January 2014
• Delivery date: 22 January 2017

The President has mentioned opv.'s in speeches at least twice this year. My guess the first mention early this year was for the above bangladeshi built OPV.jasiri wrote:Eish! the displacement is too kidogo for it to be a naval craft. Last week at the Mombasa show he talked about OPV again

Now if the figure of $910 mil is not a misquote, maybe the second mention refers to a boat for the navy. The bangladesh contract is worth about $20 mil

Re: Kenya Defence Forces (KDF)
IF 910 mil $ is not a misquote then we are looking at possibly 2 or 3 heavily armed or very advanced warships. I dont know a single OPV that can cost almost a billion dollars Most range from the 50-150 Million $ range. Mjeshi mentioned something to do with 1500 or + displacement, then i think we may possibly be looking at a light Frigate with that kind of money in play. AMA we may get more than a single class of warboats e.g an opv or two, several coastal patrols and an amphib maybe. My new favourite toy, the BAM class from Espaná costs about 120 mil so id say that's a huge budget.

Re: Kenya Defence Forces (KDF)
$910mil can buy ten of these, seems maybe an advanced boat or two is in the offing, unless the Marine expedition force's toys are also included in that amountjasiri wrote:IF 910 mil $ is not a misquote then we are looking at possibly 2 or 3 heavily armed or very advanced warships. I'm reliably informed the OPV is under construction inn India. A crew should be leaving soon for familiarisation and we should expect it here before the years over.
That Bangladeshi boat is civilian vessel. I think that 910 mn $ figure is a typo if not.....say hallo to 2 frigates, one amphib and 2 LPDSs-at least!
Btw,hows the fincantieri project coming along? They were starting a shipyard in Mombasa this year. Jasiri, mjeshi mmoja, any rumours?

Re: Kenya Defence Forces (KDF)
I think we may have an LPD squadron coming in if 910 Mil is in play. EASBRIG stretches all the way to Seychelles, it will be extremely foolish to have such a force with no indigenous sea-lift component. The Navy is moving towards blue, longer endurance and higher displacement ships, i would not be surprised if they decided to go for LPD's. These Indonesian ones are my favourites. Cheap (USD 50 Mil), practical and functional.MWAURA wrote:mambotupu wrote:The President has mentioned opv.'s in speeches at least twice this year.
